Microsoft Power BI is a business analytics tool that gives you smart new ways to analyse and review MYOB AccountRight company files. Learn about Power BI.

We’ve prepared a content pack that showcases what you can do with Power BI and AccountRight, and you can use it as a starting point for your own analysis.

Dashboard

To use the Power BI content pack with AccountRight, you need:

  • a Power BI account
  • an online AccountRight company file.

Start by connecting AccountRight and Power BI - here's how you do it.

The following information applies to Power BI Online. You can also use Power BI Desktop for more advanced reporting.

1. Prepare the AccountRight company file

1. Prepare the AccountRight file

If the AccountRight company file you want to connect isn’t online yet, you’ll need to put it online.

Next, link your MYOB account to your User ID. You can do this when signing in to your AccountRight company file.

Link your MYOB account and company file user account when signing in to your file

If you don’t see the Sign in window when opening the company file, it’s likely that you’ve already linked it.

2. Sign up for a Power BI account

2. Sign up for a Power BI account

If you haven’t used Power BI before, you’ll need to create an account:

  1. Visit http://powerbi.com in your internet browser.
  2. Click START FREE or Sign up free.
  3. Click TRY FREE under the Cloud collaboration and sharing heading.
  4. Enter your work email address (you'll need to check this email account for a verification code).
  5. Enter your details and create your account.
3. Connect to the AccountRight file

3. Connect to the AccountRight file

  1. Sign in to Power BI online (powerbi.com).
  2. Click Get Data in the bottom left corner of the page.
    Get data button
  3. In the More ways to create your own content section of the page, click Service Content Packs.
  4. Search for “accountright”. The MYOB AccountRight app appears.
  5. Click Get it now.
  6. When prompted, enter the name of the company file you want to connect to. This can be any online file that you have access to in AccountRight.

If you’re not sure what the company file name is, or you want to check which files you have access to, sign in to AccountRight and view the Company files online list as below:

    AccountRight Library Browser
  7. You'll be prompted to connect to AccountRight using OAuth2. Click Sign in.
  8. You should then be prompted to enter your MYOB account email address and password.

These last two steps might be skipped if Power BI detects that you are already signed in to your MYOB account, and therefore doesn’t require further authentication.

  9. If prompted, confirm that you allow Power BI to access your AccountRight company files. You will need to allow access to continue.
  10. Power BI will open the content pack and import data from your company file.

If you’ll connect to multiple company files, rename the default dashboard items
When you connect a company file, Power BI online will create a Dashboard, Report and Dataset in your workspace (which you can see in the left-hand side panel). Each of these will be named “MYOB AccountRight” by default.

If you want to work with multiple company files, we recommend that you rename the Dashboard, Report and Dataset to include the name of the business before connecting to another file. You can rename each of these by clicking on the ellipsis (…) next to the entry (or right-clicking the entry) and selecting RENAME.

    Rename workspace elements

After completing these steps, you can start using the content pack.
