Jury service

When an employee is called for jury service you must allow them to attend, and you must keep their position for them while they do.

If an employee’s absence would cause problems for your business, you can give them a letter to support their application to be excused or have their jury service deferred.

There is no legal obligation to pay an employee for time on jury service. However, some employers see this as part of their social or community obligations. Some employers pay their employees to attend jury service, or at least top up the difference between jury fees paid to the employee and their normal pay.
