Are you replacing your computer, or want to use AccountRight on more than one computer? The steps to get you up and running depend on whether your company file is online or offline (stored locally on your computer or a server). Follow the instructions relevant to you.

Access your online company file in a web browser!

If your AccountRight company file is online, you can access that file on any device with an internet browser, like a computer (PC or Mac), tablet – or a smartphone! See Access an AccountRight company file in a web browser.

Before you start, check that your computer meets the system requirements for running AccountRight.

Using AccountRight online (subscription required)

  1. Get the latest AccountRight installer.
  2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install AccountRight.
  3. If you use personalised letters, have customised Microsoft Excel templates or use BASlink (Australia only), you also need to copy these files onto the new computer. See below for the location of your personalised files.
Note that all other files, such as customised invoices and payslips are stored in your online company file and don't need to be copied.

Once AccountRight is installed, you'll be able to open any online company files you have access to. See Work on an online company file for more information.

Instead of preparing your activity statements manually using Baslink, you can now easily prepare and lodge your activity statements online. See Prepare your activity statement online.

Using AccountRight offline

If you're not working online, you'll need to move your company file and any other files you use, such as personalised letters and customised Excel templates.

Copy your files from your old computer

  1. Create a backup of your company file.
  2. Copy the backup file onto an external storage device, like a USB drive.
  3. (Optional) If you use personalised letters, have customised Microsoft Excel templates or use BASlink (Australia only), you also need to copy these files onto the new computer. See the tables above for the location of these files. Note that all other files, such as customised invoices and payslips are stored in your online company file and don't need to be copied.

Set up AccountRight on the new computer

  1. Get the AccountRight installer.
  2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install AccountRight.
  3. Copy the files from the external storage device.
    1. Copy the backup file onto the Desktop (to make it easy to find).
    2. If you copied additional files from the first computer, copy these to the applicable folders (see the tables above).
  4. Restore the backup
