With online payments, there are no setup or cancellation fees. There's just a transaction fee that will apply to all payments made online.
Transaction fee: $0.25 per transaction + 1.8% of the invoice value.
For card and digital wallet payments (Google Pay and Apple Pay) and PayPal, you can surcharge the 1.8% onto the customer. For BPAY payments, you can't surcharge the 1.8%.
When a customer pays your invoice online, the fees are deducted from the invoice total and the balance is deposited into your nominated bank account.
Fee example
Invoice total = $100
Fees = 25c + $1.8 (1.8% of invoice total) = $2.05
If you surcharge (pass on the 1.8% to the customer), the customer pays $100 + $1.80 = $101.80
If you don't surcharge, the customer pays the invoice value ($100)
MYOB deducts $2.05 in fees from the customer's payment, and you receive the balance
If you surcharge, you'll receive $101.80 - $2.05 = $99.75
If you don't surcharge, you'll receive $100 - $2.05 = $97.95
If there's GST on the invoice, the surcharge will also attract GST which the customer pays and you'll collect. See below for more details.
GST on surcharges
When you invoice a customer, you can pass on the 1.8% surcharge (excluding BPAY).
If there's GST on the invoice, there will also be GST included in the customer's 1.8% surcharge (the surcharge will be GST inclusive). If there's no GST on the invoice, there will be no GST applied to the customer's surcharge.
MYOB takes care of the GST calculations and how it's handled in your software. This ensures any GST you collect is reported correctly to the ATO on your activity statement.
Surcharge GST example
If you pass on the 1.8% surcharge to a customer, here's how the GST works.
If there's GST on the invoice
The customer pays: invoice value + surcharge + surcharge GST
You receive: the amount paid - fees (i.e. 1.8% + 25c) + surcharge GST
If there's no GST on the invoice
The customer pays: invoice value + surcharge
You receive: the amount paid - fees (i.e. 1.8% + 25c)
Example
You send a customer an invoice for $100 + $10 GST ($110 invoice total). You choose to pass on the 1.8% surcharge.
The surcharge will be 1.8% of $110 ($1.98) + 10% GST on the surcharge (20c) = $2.18
The customer pays $110 + $2.18 = $112.18
Fees are deducted from the customer's payment, but you still collect the GST. So in this example you'll receive:
$112.18 - $2.18 surcharge - 25c transaction fee + 20c surcharge GST = $109.95
