This support note steps you through file sharing so that more than one person can access your RetailManager shopfront at one time and how to connect to a shopfront. It assumes you will be using RetailManager on a WORKGROUP in Windows Vista or Windows 7 Windows 7. Ensure your network is correctly set up and that you can communicate between computers before completing the steps below. If you're unsure whether your WORKGROUP is configured correctly please call your IT consultant.

title1. Share the RetailManager folder on the HOST computer

Sharing the RetailManager folder means that any other computer on the network can access your shopfront.

  1. Go to the computer that hosts the data file on its hard drive.
  2. Double-click the Computer icon found on your desktop, or right-click the Windows Start button and choose Explore.
  3. Double-click LOCAL DISK (C:).
  4. Right-click the RetailM folder (or the folder where your data file is stored) then choose Share.

A new screen will appear as shown below.

  5. Add the users who need to access this folder. Using the drop down list, select the user and click Add.

We suggest the users be selected as part of the Co-Owners group. This will provide the user access to change, edit and create files and folders within the shared location.

  6. Once the users are added, click Share at the bottom of the window.
