Company files created in AccountRight v19 (and earlier) can be accessed using AccountEdge and vice versa.

This support note lists the compatible versions of Windows and Mac programs and the methods for opening these files on the other computer.

Some restrictions:

  • Only company files from AccountRight v19 (and earlier) and AccountEdge v9 (or earlier) can be transferred between Mac and PC.
  • Only the company files are can be transferred, NOT the program itself, the backup files, forms, letter or report templates.
  • (Australia only) BAS setup info, M-Powered Superannuation, M-Powered Payments, or M-Powered Bank Statements cannot be transferred.
  • If an AccountEdge company file has the multi-currency preference turned on, the file can only be opened in a compatible PC version, e.g. AccountRight Premier or Enterprise.

titleOpening transferred files

To open an AccountEdge company file on a PC, you should change the file Some AccountEdge company files don't have a file extension (the part after the "dot" in a filename, for example Myfile.MYO). When company files are created in AccountEdge they don't usually have a file extension, but Windows files will always have file extensions. Later software versions have an .MYO extension. Earlier versions of BusinessBasics, Accounting, and Accounting Plus company files will have a .DAT extension and earlier version Premier company files will have a .PRM extension. It is not mandatory to change the file extension to open the file; it can be opened without changing the extension. To open the file without changing the file extension you will need to change  So to see these files on a Windows PC you'll need to change the file type in the open Open screen to All Files.

Since Mac company files don't have a file extension it is quite easy to open Windows created company files on a Macintosh. When opening the Windows company file on a Macintosh you need to select When opening files on a Mac, select View all Files to be able to select the Windows file.
