Workpapers is used to review the client’s accounts and balances. Before preparing workpapers it is recommended that a financial data source for the client is configured. As part of the client configuration, record a location for the client’s company file on your system. If a financial data source for the client has been configured, the client balances are imported automatically into the period.

If a new client company file has recently been received then the client balances must be imported again and updated.

If the client has not been configured, you will be asked to do so when importing the client’s balances. Configure the client (see Configuring the client) and accounting product location (see Configuring Client Accounting settings).

Use the Add account option to add accounts that are missing from the client ledger.

  1. Open the workpapers period. See Opening an existing period. The Prepare Trial Balance (Workpapers) table is displayed.
  2. Click Import client’s balances on the Tasks TASKS bar. A confirmation dialog opens. The dialog confirms the location of the client’s company file on your system. The client’s general ledger data is imported from this file. Check that this file is correct. If the path and file are not correct, then the client must be reconfigured.
  3. Click Yes to import the balances. Click No to cancel. The Import Client’s Balances confirmation dialog opens to indicate that the client’s balances have been imported.
  4. Click OK. The client’s balances for the period are imported from the client’s general ledger file. The balances are displayed in the Prepare Trial Balance (Workpapers) table.
