This support note provides some solutions to help overcome some common installation issues.

If you're having trouble installing the new AccountRight (v2011 or later), see our support note Installation troubleshooting - AccountRight 2011 and later.

There are several ways you can try to install your accounting software.

Note: If you have lost your installation CD, you can call us and request a replacement. Note there is a cost associated with providing replacement software CDs. Or, you can download AccountRight from my.MYOB as described here.

Download AccountRight from my.MYOB

If you have registered your MYOB software and have access to my.MYOB, you can download your software from there as described in our support note Downloading updates from my.MYOB.

Once downloaded, double-click the downloaded file to begin the installation, then follow the on-screen prompts.

Install AccountRight using the CD

You can install AccountRight by double-clicking the setup.exe file located on the installation CD.

To do this:

  1. Insert the CD into the computer's CD drive.
  2. If your computer is set to automatically read the CD and the Auto Run window is displayed, close out of this window so you are back on your Windows desktop.
  3. Simultaneously press the Windows and E keys. The Computer or Explorer window appears.
  4. Click on your CD drive. In the example below, the CD drive is the D drive (D:).
  5. On the right hand side of the screen, you should see the contents of the CD. To install, double click the setup.exe file as shown in the list below. This should take you through the standard install procedure as outlined in your Getting Started Guide or the Release Notes. Note the image below is from Windows 7, but the principle is the same regardless of your Windows version. Image

Note: If you still experience issues installing this way, continue below.

Install over a network (CD installation)

If you're trying to install AccountRight in a network and one computer doesn't have a CD drive, you can install your software by using the CD drive on another computer in the network.

First, make sure the CD Rom drive is shared as follows:

Windows Vista and later

  1. On the computer which has the CD Rom drive, simultaneously press the Windows and E keys. The Computer or Explorer window appears.
  2. Right-click the CD Rom drive and choose Properties.
  3. Click the Sharing tab then click Advanced Sharing.
  4. Select the option Share this folder then click Permissions.

  5. Select the Allow option for Full Control.

  6. Click OK then click OK again.

Windows XP

  1. On the computer which has the CD Rom drive, simultaneously press the Windows and E keys. The Windows Explorer window appears.
  2. Right-click the CD Rom drive and choose Properties.
  3. Click the Sharing tab and select the Shared As and Full Access Type. See our example below.

On the computer without a CD Rom drive, go through Network Neighbourhood/My Network Places and select the machine with the CD Rom drive (you should see a folder representing the shared CD drive), for example it might be named 'D'. If you open this folder, you will be able to access the setup.exe file. Double-click on this file to install the file across the network from the CD on one machine to your desired destination on the other machine.

Note: Alternatively, you can copy across the contents of the CD from this folder to a folder on your hard drive. Once these files are on the hard drive, you can once again install in safe mode.

Run the Microsoft "Fix it" utility

Some installation issues can be resolved by running the Microsoft "Fix it" utility. This tool, freely available from the Microsoft website, diagnoses problems that can prevent installing and uninstalling programs on your computer. This tool also assists with programs that will not uninstall correctly and programs blocking installation of new program installations.

This utility is available via the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

Note: As this utility is provided by a third party (Microsoft), MYOB cannot provide assistance with its use, nor take responsibility for the outcome of using this tool.
