ANSWER ID:9790
When opening a company file, some users may get the following message:
Unable to write command file name to SWDRVS.INI
If the "OK" button is clicked twice, the file still opens OK.
Cause:
Under Windows 2000, XP & 2003, there are a number of different user logon levels. Some examples of these are Administrator, Power User, Guest and Limited User. In Windows 7 a user can only logon as Administrator or User.
When logging into Windows with either a Guest, Limited User, or User and then trying to run the software, this error message is displayed.
Note: When logging into Windows as an Administrator, this message will not occur.
Solution:
By changing the access rights on the SWDRVS.INI file to allow Full Control for all types of users, then this message will not appear.
To do this:
- Log into Windows as an Administrator user.
- Search for the file SWDRVS.INI. It can normally be located in the Windows Directory.
- Right-click on the file and choose Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Change the access control on the SWDRVS.INI file so that all different levels of users have Full Control access to the file as shown in the example below.
