Shortcuts on your computer's desktop provide quick access to your programs. We'll show you how to create a shortcut to start AccountRight, and also how to modify this shortcut so it opens your company file.

This support note assumes AccountRight is installed in the default location on your computer's Local Disk (C:) drive, for example C:\Premier19. If you are working on a different drive or you have installed AccountRight in a different folder, you will need to take that into consideration when following the instructions below.

1. Create a shortcut to open AccountRight
  1. In an empty space on your desktop, right-click and choose New then choose Shortcut. The Create Shortcut window will be displayed.
  2. Click Browse. The Browse for Folder window will be displayed.
  3. Click My Computer (or Computer) then click Local Disk (C:).
  4. Click the folder where AccountRight is installed, for example Premier19. The contents of this folder will be displayed.
  5. Click the file called Myob.exe or Myobp.exe (depending on your AccountRight version).
  6. Click OK. The file and its location will be displayed in the Create Shortcut window as shown below.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter a name for the shortcut, for example MYOB AccountRight Premier v19.
  9. Click Finish. The shortcut will be displayed on your desktop as shown in the following example.

Double-clicking the shortcut will start AccountRight.

2. Create a shortcut to open a company file
  1. Right-click the shortcut created in the previous task and choose Properties. The Properties window will be displayed.
  2. Click the Shortcut tab. The Target field should contain the location of AccountRight's executable file, for example Myobp.exe, as shown below.

  3. Add the location and name of your company file to the Target field (in quotation marks), for example "C:\Premier19\Clearwtr.MYO"
Include a space between "Myobp.exe" and your company file name and location as shown in the example below.

    Using a network location?

To link your shortcut to a file in a network location, enter the path and name to the network file. We recomend using \\server\path\name.myo to connect to a file.

  4. Click OK. Now when you double-click your shortcut, the software will launch and your company file will be opened.

Additional Information

If your company file or the folder containing the company file has any spaces in the name, you may need to use quotation marks for the shortcut to work correctly.

For example, if the company file is called XYZ Company Data.myo then the Target field of the shortcut Properties window would read:

C:\Premier19\myob.exe "XYZ Company Data.myo"

(Note there's a space between .exe and XYZ)

In the next example, AccountRight Premier has been installed into a folder called MYOB Program and the XYZ Company File is stored on network drive N: in a folder called MYOB Data. As both the program location and the company file name and location contain spaces, both elements will need to be enclosed in quotation marks. The Target field of this shortcut's properties would be:

"C:\MYOB Program\myobp.exe" "N:MYOB Data XYZ Company File.myo"

(Note there's a space between MYOB and Program and .exe" and "N:)
