You might run into trouble when installing AccountRight, so here are the issues we know about and how they can be fixed. Having trouble installing AccountRight v19? Your help is here.

The most common installation issue is a 'Setup failed" error and we've listed these below. If something else is going wrong see these other installation issues.

To fix a 'Setup failed' error

  1. Take note of the code on your 'Setup failed' error. Here's an example:
  2. Choose your code to view the solution.

 

0x800713ec - Asia

An error code 0x800713ec - Asia can occur if there's one or more important Windows updates which need to be installed.

To check for Windows updates:

  1. If your computer only allows users with administrator privileges to install updates, log into Windows as administrator.
  2. Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and follow the instructions to check for updates.
  3. If updates are available:
    1. Select all Important updates.
    2. Select any Optional updates which refer to .NET Framework.
    3. Click Install to install the selected updates.
  4. Restart your computer. 

Still getting this error?

0x800b0101

An error code 0x0800b0101 is caused by an expired certificate in an older AccountRight installer.

With an AccountRight subscription, you can download and install the latest AccountRight version by signing into my.MYOB.com.au (Australia) or my.MYOB.co.nz (New Zealand).

0x80070642

An error code 0x080070642 can happen if the installation was interrupted accidentally or by another program. So start by trying the installation again.

If the error persists, uninstall your current AccountRight version then try the installation again by right-clicking the installation file and choosing Run as administrator.

To uninstall AccountRight:

  1. Access the list of programs that are installed on your computer.

    If usingDo this
    Windows 8 or 10Right-click in the screen's bottom-left corner and choose Programs and Features.
    Windows 7Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel then choose Programs and Features.
  2. Click the AccountRight software you want to uninstall then click Uninstall. In some Windows versions this may appear as Change/Uninstall.

  3. Click through any confirmation windows, and click Yes to wanting to completely remove the selected application and all of its components.

0x80070643

An error code 0x080070643 means there's some Windows updates that need to be installed on your computer.

Here's what to do:

  1. Click to check for available Windows updates.
  2. Select all 'Important' updates.
  3. Select all 'Optional' updates which refer to .NET Framework.
  4. Install the selected updates.
  5. If prompted, restart your computer.

Windows 10 is a service, which means automatic updates are turned on by default and your PC always has the latest and best features.
To check that updates are being installed on windows 10:

  1. Select the Start button Windows logo icon Windows logo icon, then select Settings Settings icon Settings icon > Update & security Windows Update. If you want to check for updates manually, select Check for updates.
  2. Select Advanced options, and then under Choose how updates are installed, select Automatic (recommended)

You should now be able to install AccountRight.

If the error persists, download and install Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 from the Microsoft support site. Installation instructions are also provided.

0x80070002

An error code 0x080070002 means there are some files or folders on your computer which couldn't be accessed during the installation.

This is how you can fix it:

  1. Simultaneously press the Windows and R keys on your keyboard (the Windows key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The Run window appears.
  2. In ther Open field, type %localappdata% then click OK.
     
    A list of folders is displayed.
  3. Right-click the folder called Package Cache and choose Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Click one of the entries in the box labelled Group or user names then click Edit.
  6. Click Add.
  7. In the white box (where the cursor is flashing), type SYSTEM then click Check Names.
  8. Click OK.
    SYSTEM should now be listed as one of the entries in the box labelled Group or user names:
     
  9. Click OK, then click OK again.

You should now be able to install AccountRight.

My 'setup failed' error is different

If you're getting an error code which isn't listed above, try the following:

  1. Install all available Windows updates. See this Microsoft support article for information on installing updates.
  2. After installing Windows updates, restart your computer.
  3. Close all programs, including antivirus programs, and start the AccountRight installation again by right-clicking the installation file and choosing Run as administrator. When complete you can restart your antivirus program.

Other installation issues

 

I'm getting a message about Microsoft .NET

Microsoft .NET Framework is a Windows component required by AccountRight. If it's not already installed on your computer, it'll be installed along with AccountRight. This might take some time so allow up to 15 minutes for this part of the installation to complete.

If you get an error message which refers to Microsoft .Net Framework, you can install this component separately. Here's how:

  1. Click this link to access the Microsoft Download Centre: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49981
  2. On the displayed page, click Download.
  3. When prompted, click Run.
  4. When complete, restart your computer.

You should now be able to successfully install AccountRight.

I'm getting the error "The specified account already exists"

If you're getting the error "The specified account already exists" when installing AccountRight, it means you'll first have to uninstall your current AccountRight version.


 

To uninstall AccountRight:

  1. Access the list of programs that are installed on your computer.

    If usingDo this
    Windows 8 or 10Right-click in the screen's bottom-left corner and choose Programs and Features.
    Windows 7Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel then choose Programs and Features.
  2. Click the AccountRight software you want to uninstall then click Uninstall. In some Windows versions this may appear as Change/Uninstall.

  3. Click through any confirmation windows, and click Yes to wanting to completely remove the selected application and all of its components.

You will now be able to install the AccountRight update by double-clicking the downloaded file.

The AccountRight icon is opening a previous AccountRight version

If you still have a previous AccountRight version on your computer, make sure you're using the correct shortcut icon to open the latest version.

I'm being asked to Modify or Uninstall after installing AccountRight

After installing the latest version of AccountRight, the following message will appear if you accidentally try to install the update again:

This can happen if you've installed the update but then opened your previous AccountRight version and clicked Update now again.

Make sure you're opening the latest AccountRight version using the icon on your desktop or from the start menu.

I'm being prompted to update AccountRight after already updating

If you've just installed an update but you're being prompted to update again, you might be opening the previous version of AccountRight.

Remember to use the new AccountRight icon (it should be on your desktop), or you'll be asked to upgrade again. 

Using the Server Edition?

If you've already updated to AccountRight SE v2016.2.1 and are still seeing the Update Now banner:

  1. Uninstall AccountRight.
    1. Access the list of programs that are installed on your computer.

      If usingDo this
      Windows 8 or 10Right-click in the screen's bottom-left corner and choose Programs and Features.
      Windows 7Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel then choose Programs and Features.
    2. Click the AccountRight software you want to uninstall then click Uninstall. In some Windows versions this may appear as Change/Uninstall.

    3. Click through any confirmation windows, and click Yes to wanting to completely remove the selected application and all of its components.

  2. Reinstall AccountRight v2016.2.1. If you have a subscription you can download the AccountRight installer from my.MYOB.com.au  (AU) or my.MYOB.co.nz (NZ).
Clicking "Update Now" does nothing

If an AccountRight update doesn't download and install when you click "Update Now", it usually means the antivirus or firewall program on your computer is preventing the update from downloading. Try temporarily disabling these programs then try the update again. After AccountRight has installed, turn these programs on again.

If you're still having trouble, you can download the latest AccountRight update by logging in to my.MYOB (Australia | New Zealand). After logging in, go to the My Products menu and choose Downloads. Double-click the downloaded file to install the update.
