You can upgrade an AccountRight classic file to an equivalent online version, if:

  • the AccountRight classic product you have is one of the following: Accounting, AccountingPlus, Business Basics or Premier
  • your AccountRight subscription does or doesn't have an active licence for online entitlement
  • you or your client have access to the AccountRight classic file
  • there is a unique serial number associated with the AccountRight classic file.

An AccountRight classic file can only be uploaded to the Accounting dashboard once.

 Consider the following before upgrading

  • You won't be able to use the AccountRight classic file while it's being upgraded.
  • Make user that you're PCI compliant by removing any customer credit card details from your file. 
  • Have your serial number handy.

    How do I find the serial number of the AccountRight classic file?

    Your serial number is a unique ID which is specific to your software. It was provided to you by MYOB when you purchased AccountRight.

    The serial number is found on the Company information window (open your company file and go to Setup > Company Information). See the AccountRight help for more info.

Upgrading your classic file

If you have the latest company file and an active licence for online entitlement
  1. Access the Accounting dashboard.
  2. Click Accounting on the left.
  3. Click Desktop businesses.
  4. Click the Upgrade a desktop business button.
    The Find desktop business to upgrade dialog displays.
  5. Enter the Serial number of the AccountRight classic file.
    The serial number must be 7-12 characters in length.
    The serial number you enter is validated and an error message is displayed if it is incorrect or it has already been used. Re-enter the correct serial number or use another serial number, as appropriate.
    An invalid error message is displayed if the serial number is not associated with an AccountRight classic account.
  6. Click Search.
    Once serial number has been verified, information about the business and the AccountRight product used is displayed in the Results dialog.
  7. Click Upgrade now.
    The Upgrade this business page displays.
  8. As you have the latest company file, click Upload now.
    The Upload your company file page displays.
    Find your company file or drag and drop it into the page.
    Once the file has been uploaded, it is displayed on the Accounting > Desktop businesses page.

    The status of the file will be In progress, which means that the file has been uploaded and is currently being upgraded. Once the upgrade to an online file is complete, the entry is removed from the Accounting > Desktop businesses page and instead is listed on the Accounting > Online businesses page.
If your client has the company file and an active licence for online entitlement
  1. Access the Accounting dashboard.
  2. Click Accounting on the left.
  3. Click Desktop businesses
  4. Click the Upgrade desktop businesses button.
    The Find desktop business to upgrade dialog displays.
  5. Enter the Serial number of the AccountRight classic file.
    The serial number must be 7-12 characters in length.
    The serial number you enter is validated and an error message is displayed if it is incorrect or it has already been used. Re-enter the correct serial number or use another serial number, as appropriate.
    An invalid error message is displayed if the serial number is not associated with an AccountRight classic account.
  6. Click Search.
    Once serial number has been verified, information about the business and the AccountRight product used is displayed in the Results dialog.
  7. If you know that the account has an active licence for online entitlement and you wish to upgrade now, click Upgrade now.
    The Upgrade this business page displays.
  8. As your client has the file, they'll need to upload the file before you can upgrade, so click Request from client.
    The Upgrade desktop business - Email your client to request their file page displays.
    1. Enter your client's First and Last name
    2. Enter your client's email address.
      The Send me a copy of this email checkbox is selected by default. Deselect the checkbox if you don't want to receive a copy of this email.
    3. Type your message to your client requesting that you have access to their latest AccountRight classic file.
    4. Click Confirm and send.
      An email will be sent to your client.

As you're waiting for your client to upload the company data file, the entry on the Accounting > Desktop businesses page will have a status of Awaiting file

When your client uploads their company data file, you'll then be able to upgrade it to an online version. See Upgrading your desktop business for more info.

To add your file to the dashboard and upgrade later

In this case, your client's business may not have an active subscription for online entitlement. So you may want to start the process and finish it later.

  1. Access the Accounting dashboard.
  2. Click Accounting on the left.
  3. Click Desktop businesses.
  4. Click the Upgrade a desktop business button. The Find desktop business to upgrade dialog displays.
  5. Enter the Serial number of the AccountRight classic file.
    The serial number must be 7-12 characters in length.
    The serial number you enter is validated and an error message is displayed if it is incorrect or it has already been used. Re-enter the correct serial number or use another serial number, as appropriate.
    An invalid error message is displayed if the serial number is not associated with an AccountRight classic account.
  6. Click Search.
    Once serial number has been verified, information about the business and the AccountRight product used is displayed in the Results dialog. Or you may not receive any notifications at all concerning the account.
  7. Click Add to my dashboard.

    The Upgrade now button won't be active if the account doesn't have an active licence for online entitlement.

    There is also a tooltip when you hover over the shaded out Upgrade now button to let you know that the account you're using doesn't have an active licence for online entitlement.

     The account is simply listed on your Accounting > Desktop businesses page and you can choose to upgrade later. Check whether the account has an active licence for online entitlement. If it doesn't, see Upgrading your business for more info.
