A schedule specifies the start and end date of the work to be performed. Schedules are usually cyclical because the nature of the work involved in them can be repeated time and time again for the same client or another client.

When specifying the start and end dates, you need to consider deadline dates that could be involved. The dates are used as the basis for calculating the default project start and end date from the offset dates defined in the schedule template.

The rules for deciding if a schedule or a job is added to an assignment:

  • If a schedule template is added to an assignment template, a schedule will be created and added to the assignment using the schedule template details.

  • If no schedule template is associated to an assignment template, a job will be created and added to the assignment.

To add a schedule to an assignment
  1. Find and open an assignment. See Finding and opening assignments.

  2. Select the assignment to be edited. The Assignment Details page opens.

  3. Click the Schedule tab.

  4. Select Add/Edit schedule on the Tasks bar. The Add/Edit Schedule details window opens.

  5. In the first blank row of the table enter the following information to add a schedule to an assignment:

    1. Enter a Description for the schedule. For example:

      • a yearly schedule called 2007, 2008, etc.

      • a quarterly schedule called First Quarter, Second Quarter, etc.

      • a monthly or weekly schedule called Monthly Bookkeeping Schedule, Monthly Wages Schedule or similar.

    2. Enter the Start Date for the schedule. Enter the date in the format dd/mm/yyyy or select it from the drop-down calendar.

    3. Enter the End Date for the schedule. Enter the date in the format dd/mm/yyyy or select it from the drop-down calendar.

    4. Enter the budget amount for the schedule in the Fee Budget field.

    5. Select how often the schedule will be completed using the Frequency drop-down.

Do not select the Rolled Fwd checkbox because the schedule is not being rolled forward now (see Rolling forward schedules).

  6. Click OK. The description is displayed in the Schedule field drop-down located in the top left-hand corner of the Schedule tab.

The next step is to create a stage. Do this by adding a stage individually (see Adding stages to schedules) or by adding a stage from a schedule template (see Adding stages from schedule templates to schedules).
