Single Touch Payroll (STP) is an ATO initiative to streamline payroll reporting. You’ll be able to report payroll and super information directly to the ATO when you process a pay run in AccountRight (from either online or desktop company files).

As a result of this change, you'll no longer need to complete payment summaries at the end of the financial year as your employees' payroll information will be available to them through myGov.

MYOB AccountRight will be compliant prior to the first reporting date and will include tools to help make this transition as smooth as possible.

If you want to understand the finer details and how it relates to your MYOB software, we recommend attending one of our Single Touch Payroll training courses.

Things to do now

You can start reviewing your employee and payroll information to make sure you meet the ATO's reporting requirements.

Next steps

You need to do a headcount of your employees as at 1 April 2018. This is a headcount – not the full time equivalent (FTE) number. The ATO website explains more about this headcount.

Did you have 20 or more employees on 1 April 2018?

Yes

You’ll need to start reporting payroll and super information using Single Touch Payroll from 1 July 2018.

Instructions on how to get ready are coming soon.

No

You don’t need to use STP reporting now, it's only optional.

But, watch this space. All employers may need to start reporting using STP from 1 July 2019, subject to new legislation being passed.

What's MYOB doing?

MYOB is working closely with the ATO to put the finishing touches on AccountRight in advance of the 1 July 2018 deadline. Our latest AccountRight version has some STP readiness checks to help you prepare.

We're also running a beta program with real businesses using AccountRight to report their payroll information. If you're keen to join, register now.

If joining a beta isn't for you and you want to learn more, we recommend attending one of our Single Touch Payroll training courses.

We also recommend keeping an eye on the MYOB website for the latest MYOB info on Single Touch Payroll.
