ANSWER ID:9790

If receiving this error when opening a company file, click OK twice to successfully open the company file.

Cause

Under older Windows versions (Windows XP or earlier), there are a number of different user logon levels. Some examples of these are Administrator, Power User, Guest and Limited User. In Windows 7 and later a user can only logon as Administrator or User.

When logging into Windows with either a Guest, Limited User, or User and then trying to run the software, this error message is displayed.

When logging into Windows as an Administrator, this message will not occur.

To prevent this error

Change the access rights on the SWDRVS.INI file to allow Full Control for all types of users.

  1. Log into Windows as an Administrator user.
  2. Search for the file SWDRVS.INI. It can normally be located in the Windows directory.
  3. Right-click on the file and choose Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab.
  5. Change the access control on the SWDRVS.INI file so that all different levels of users have Full Control access to the file as shown in the example below.
  6. Click OK.
