ANSWER ID:9205

This error is usually caused by a BASlink corruption on your computer - and it's easy to fix.

Let's step you through it:

1. Copy the Setup and Data folders from the BASlink folder

The Setup and Data folders contain your BASlink template and backup files. By copying these folders to your Desktop (then putting them back later in the process) you won't need to setup your entire BAS again after fixing this issue.

To copy the Setup folder:

  1. Close AccountRight.
  2. Simultaneously press the Windows Image and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows Image key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The File Explorer window appears.
  3. Find your BASlink folder. Use the table below for guidance.

If you're using this software version:Your BASlink folder will be here
    (v19.12 or earlier)
Your BASlink folder will be here
    (v19.13 or later, Australia only)
    AccountRight Standard v19
    C:\Standard19
    N/A
    AccountRight Plus v19
    C:\Plus19
    C:\PlusClassic
    AccountRight Premier v19
    C:\Premier19
    C:\PremierClassic
    AccountRight Enterprise v19
    C:\Enterprise19
    C:\EnterpriseClassic
  4. Double-click the BASlink folder. You will see a Setup and Data folder.
  5. Right-click the Setup folder and choose Copy.
  6. Right-click on the Desktop and choose Paste. The Setup folder will be copied to your Desktop.

Now do the same for the Data folder:

  1. Go back to the BASlink folder (see the table above for guidance).
  2. Double-click the BASlink folder to locate the Data folder.
  3. Right-click the Data folder and choose Copy.
  4. Right-click on the Desktop and choose Paste. The Data folder has now been copied to your Desktop.
2. Delete the BASlink folder from your software folder
  1. Close AccountRight.
  2. Simultaneously press the Windows Image and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows Image key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The File Explorer window appears.
  3. Find your BASlink folder. Use the table below for guidance.

If you're using this software version:Your BASlink folder will be here
    (v19.12 or earlier)
Your BASlink folder will be here
    (v19.13 or later, Australia only)
    AccountRight Standard v19
    C:\Standard19
    N/A
    AccountRight Plus v19
    C:\Plus19
    C:\PlusClassic
    AccountRight Premier v19
    C:\Premier19
    C:\PremierClassic
    AccountRight Enterprise v19
    C:\Enterprise19
    C:\EnterpriseClassic
  4. Right-click the BASlink folder and choose Delete.
  5. Click Yes to the deletion confirmation message.
3. Perform a 'repair' install of your software

Performing a "repair" installation of AccountRight will ensure all the program components you specified during the original installation are in place and working as intended - including the required BASlink components. If the "repair" option isn't available for your software version, you can uninstall and reinstall your software.

If you downloaded AccountRight:

  1. Close out of all programs on your computer. This includes disabling any anti-virus software.
  2. Access the list of programs installed on your computer:
    • Windows 10: Right-click the Windows Start button and choose Apps and Features.
    • Windows 8: Right-click in the screen's bottom-left corner and choose Programs and Features.
    • Windows 7/Vista: Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel then choose Programs and Features.
  3. Click the AccountRight version to be repaired then click Change or Modify. The Setup window will be displayed.

    "Change" option unavailable?

Instead, you'll need to Uninstall the software, then re-install it using the downloaded installation file. If needed, you can download the installation file from our website.

  4. Select the Repair option then click Next.

  5. Select Finish once the reinstallation is complete.
  6. Restart your computer.

If you have your AccountRight installation CD:

  1. Close out of all programs on your computer. This includes disabling any anti-virus software.
  2. Place the AccountRight CD into the disc drive. If the installation window does not automatically display:
    1. Simultaneously press the Windows Image and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows Image key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The File Explorer window appears.
    2. Double-click your CD-ROM drive (usually the D: drive).
    3. Locate the file named autorun.exe and double-click it.
  3. Select Install. The system requirements window is displayed.
  4. Click Install Now. The InstallShield process will begin and will check the Windows Registry. Once it has searched and found that the software is already installed on your computer, the Setup window will be displayed.
  5. Select the Repair option then click Next.

  6. Select Finish once the reinstallation is complete.
  7. Restart your computer.
4. Copy the Setup and Data folders back to the BASlink folder

You now need to copy the previously saved Setup and Data folders from your Desktop back into the BASlink folder.

To copy the Setup folder:

  1. Simultaneously press the Windows Image and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows Image key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The File Explorer window appears.
  2. From the Desktop, right-click the Setup folder (which you pasted there earlier in this support note) and choose Cut.

Still getting the error?

Our tech support experts are investigating why this error persists on some computers - even after completing the steps above. It seems some computers are configured in a way which prevents BASlink running successfully.

If the error persists for you, your options are:

  • run BASlink on a different computer (you'll need to create a backup of your company file and transfer it to another computer. See Moving AccountRight v19 to a new computer for details)
  • use the GST summary report to help complete your BAS (Reports menu > Index to Reports > GST/Sales Tax tab > GST Reports)
