The JobKeeper program ended on 28 March 2021

If you had employees being paid under JobKeeper right up to the end of the scheme, there's nothing you need to do in AccountEdge (you don't need to select a Final Fortnight for those employees).

For key dates and actions for employers, see the ATO website.

If you're looking to set up JobKeeper, see JobKeeper payments for AccountEdge on how to get started.

If you've already set up JobKeeper, you need to check a few things to make sure you receive your wage subsidy payments from the government.

Complete these before 8 May to make sure April JobKeeper payments were correct.

We recommend you check:

Check the following before 8 May
  • JobKeeper start dates have been correctly reported to the ATO
  • JobKeeper wage category setup
  • JobKeeper payments are correct

Let's step you through it:

1. Check JobKeeper start dates

When you first set up JobKeeper, you would've notified the ATO of the JobKeeper start dates for each eligible employee. You would've used a wage category called JOBKEEPER-START-FNxx.

The Wages Name and ATO Reporting Category you use must be set up as shown in the image below (step 4) in order to correctly notify the ATO that you're paying the employee under the JobKeeper scheme.

The JobKeeper start Wage Name must be: JOBKEEPER-START-FNxx

Correct Wages NamesIncorrect Wages Names
  • JOBKEEPER-START-FN01
  • JOBKEEPER-START-FN02
  • JOBKEEPER-START-FN03
  • jobkeeper-start
  • JobKeeper-starting
  • JobKeeper start
  • ato-jobkeeper-start

We recommend you check that you've set up this wage category correctly.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll command centre and click Payroll Categories.
  2. On the Wages tab, click to open the category you've used to notify the ATO of JobKeeper start dates for your employees.
  3. The Wages Name needs to be entered as JOBKEEPER-START-FNxx, where xx refers to the fortnightly period during which you start making JobKeeper payments. If your wage category has a different name, the ATO won't recognise the JobKeeper payments, so you need to enter it exactly as it's stated.

For example, if you're paying your employee their first JobKeeper payment on 11 April, use JOBKEEPER-START-FN01 as the wages name (as the pay date falls within the ATO's fortnightly period).

The Wages Name must match this (all capitals, with hyphens and no spaces) to ensure it's accepted by the ATO.

See the following table for help

If your first JobKeeper pay date falls withinThe Wages Names for this category must be
    30/03/2020 - 12/04/2020JOBKEEPER-START-FN01

    27/04/2020 - 10/05/2020JOBKEEPER-START-FN03

The Wages Name and ATO Reporting Category you use for the JobKeeper category must be set up as shown below in order to receive the wage subsidy payment from the government.

The JobKeeper top-up Wage Name must be exactly: JOBKEEPER-TOPUP

4. Check payment amounts

  FAQs

What if I've used more than one wage category for JobKeeper top-up payments?

You should only use the JOBKEEPER-TOPUP wage category for payments to employees who earn less than $1500 per fortnight (before tax) or who have been stood down.

If you've set up additional JobKeeper wage categories and used these to pay employees, you'll need to:

  1. Run the Payroll activity detail report to check which wage categories you've used.
  2. Delete the pays that have used the wrong wage category,
  3. Ensure you've set up JobKeeper correctly.
  4. Reprocess the deleted pays making sure you only the JOBKEEPER-TOPUP wage category where applicable.
Can I include my employee's name in the JobKeeper wage category?

Unfortunately, no. The ATO will not recognise it as a JobKeeper payment and therefore you won't receive the wage subsidy payment from the government.

You must use the following format, with no adjustments: JOBKEEPER-TOPUP
