RetailBasics enables you to import stock, staff and customer records.

We'll just cover the basics here, but for all the details see Appendix A of the RetailBasics user guide.

To import into RetailBasics:

  1. Within RetailBasics go to Admin.                      
  2. Go to the File menu and choose Import/Export.
  3. Select Import Data as the process you want to perform then click OK.                       
  4. Locate and select the file you want to import then click OK. Comma-separated [*.csv] and tab-delimited [*.tsv or *.txt] files can be imported into RetailBasics.
  5. You will now be prompted to select what type of data to import. The options you will have to choose from are: Stock, Staff or Customers.        
  6. If each column in the file you are importing has a heading, make sure the The First Record is option is set to Header Info. If you have modified your text files and removed the headings after you exported them, you will need to select Data.
  7. Select the Field Separator. The default separator for importing files is normally Tab.          
  8. Click Import.

What are the import field specifications for RetailBasics?

When importing into RetailBasics, you can't match the fields in your import file against the fields in RetailBasics. This means the file you're importing needs to contain information which conforms to the field specifications accepted by RetailBasics. These field sepcifications are basically the format of the information in each field.

The tables below specify the order in which the columns needs to be, as well as the contents and purpose of the field.
