  • Restoring a stocktake backup in RetailManager

RetailManager

When you perform a stocktake in RetailManager, a backup file is saved on your computer. If needed, you can restore this backup file to become your current, working shopfront.

Before restoring the backup, you need to rename your current shopfront.

Let's take you through the steps.

1. Rename your current shopfront file
  1. Ensure all connections to the database have been closed on all computers.
  2. Simultaneously press the Windows and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The File Explorer window appears.
  3. Double-click Local Disk C, double-click the RetailM folder, then double-click your shopfront folder folder, in other words open the folder C:\RetailM\YourShopFrontFolder.

This is the default installation location for RetailManager (C:\RetailM). If your RetailManager shopfront is in a different location you will need to go to that location instead.

  4. Right-click the file Recent.MDB and choose Rename.
  5. Rename this file to recentddmmyya.mdb where ddmmyy is the current date and "a" indicates this is the first renamed recent file today.
  6. Continue with the next task to restore the stocktake backup.
2. Restore the stocktake backup file
  1. Continuing from the previous steps, double-click the Stocktake Backup folder.
  2. Inside the folder you will see another folder named with the date and time the stocktake was committed. Double-click this folder to open it.
  3. Right-click the Recent.MDB file and choose Copy.
  4. Right-click your shopfront folder (e.g. C:\RetailM\YourShopFrontFolder) and choose Paste. This will paste Recent.MDB file into your shopfront folder. This may take some time depending on the size of the file and the speed of the computer.
  5. When complete, close the window.
  6. Open RetailManager and your shopfront.
  7. Ensure your last sale date is correct by going to the Tools menu and choosing Look Up then clicking Show Last Sale.
  8. Go to the File menu and choose Configuration. Click Yes to the prompt to close your current shopfront.
  9. Click the Maintenance tab.
  10. Right-click your shopfront and choose Rebuild/Compact.
  11. Click Yes to the prompt.
  12. When the Rebuild/Compact is completed, close the Configuration Menu and enter your shopfront again.
