Tape backup differences for a full, differential and incremental backup A full backup of your SQL database and data file store is highly recommended due to the multiple files that may need restoring if a corruption occurs. Incremental backups though commonly used as a backup strategy fall into the high risk category for data loss\downtime, as the possibility for a tape backup failure over successive days or time taken to search for a particular file on a tape off-site that needs restoring may add to the downtime incurred. The table below outlines differences between tape backups. Type | Description |
---|
Full | A full tape backup procedure will backup all specified files - Recommended | Differential | Includes all files that were modified or created since the last full backup occurred. | Incremental | Includes all files that were modified or created since the last full, differential or incremental backup. |
