This support note contains instructions for moving RetailBasics to a new or upgraded computer.

 

Create a backup of your shopfront

Note: Our support note Backup and restore RetailBasics has more information on backing up RetailBasics.

  1. Go to the Admin module.
  2. Go to the  File menu and choose Backup.
  3. Click Save. If RetailBasics is installed in its default location, the default location for your backup files is C:/RetailBasics/Backup. See our example below.

Note: If you are replacing the machine which is running RetailBasics, then the Backup file will need to be copied to a network computer or removable storage device, for example USB stick, CD, or DVD.

Uninstall RetailBasics

RetailBasics can be uninstalled by using the RetailBasics CD or via the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs.

 

RetailBasics CD method

  1. Place your RetailBasics CD in your CD drive.
  2. At the prompt, select Install from the menu.
  3. Select the Remove option then click Next.

 

Windows XP Add or Remove Programs method

  1. Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click to highlight RetailBasics, then click Change/Remove as shown below.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

 

Windows 7 Programs and Features method

  1. Click the Windows Start button and choose Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Click to highlight RetailBasics then click Uninstall/Change as shown below.

  4. Select the Remove option then click Next.

  5. At the confirmation prompt, click Yes.

Install RetailBasics

RetailBasics can now be installed onto the new computer or upgraded computer. This can be done by using the RetailBasics CD and choosing the option to Install. Once the install process has started, follow the prompts accordingly and the program should now be reinstalled on the new/upgraded computer.

Restore your RetailBasics backup file

Note: Our support note Backup and restore RetailBasics has more information on backing up and restoring RetailBasics.

  1. In RetailBasics on the new/upgraded computer, go to the Admin module.
  2. Go to the File menu and choose Restore.
  3. Browse to your saved backup file. If your backup file is on a removable storage device, browse to this directory.
  4. Click to highlight the backup file then click OK. See our example below.

Your backed up shopfront will be restored.
