  • Computer crashing after installing Payroll

ANSWER ID:35199

Some people have reported that after installing Payroll their computer freezes or displays a blue screen when they try to use a Microsoft Office program. If this happens, it means there are corrupt or missing fonts on your computer.

Microsoft Office relies on specific fonts for operation. To fix this issue, follow the steps below to download and reinstall the Arial fonts on your computer.

These steps use the built-in file extractor that comes with Windows. If you use a 3rd party file extractor (such as WinZip) refer to the help documentation for that software for information on extracting the contents of a ZIP file.

Reinstalling the Arial fonts
  1. Right click the link below and select Save target as or Save file as, and save the file ArialFonts.zop to your Desktop. This file is a compressed ZIP file which contains the Arial fonts in a single folder.
    Download Arial

  2. On your desktop, right-click the downloaded file and click Extract All. You will be prompted to specify where you want to extract the files.

If you have installed a third party file extractor, such as WinZip, you will need to refer to the help documentation for that software for information on extracting the contents of a ZIP file.

  3. Click Browse and select the Desktop for the location to extract the contents of the ZIP file. This will place a folder called Arial Fonts onto your Desktop.

  4. Double-click the Arial Fonts folder.
  5. Select all of the files, then right-click the files and choose Install.

  6. If a message is displayed about replacing an existing font, select Do this for all current items, then click Yes.

  7. Once all the fonts have finished installing, restart your computer.
After completing the above steps, you can delete the Arial Fonts folder and the ArialFonts.zip file, as these are no longer required.
