This article will advise you how to migrate MYOB Accountants Office (AO) and AO Classic by backing up the databases, installing AO classic, applying any applicable updates, installing SQL, installing AO 2013.0 or greater without converting data, restoring the database and then running a repair.
Please read through the instructions below prior to undertaking the migration process. MYOB strongly suggests that the migration of MYOB AO is performed by an individual with strong knowledge of these software products and is competent with the Microsoft Windows operating system. If you experience issues with MYOB software after following the instructions below, additional assistance of your migration may fall outside of the terms of your Sales and Service Agreement.
MYOB provides a Migration Service. If you have any doubts or concerns about completing this migration yourself, please contact your MYOB Client Manager and arrange for one of our technical services analysts to perform the migration for you. This service may require a booking, so please plan well in advance.

Pre-Migration Checks
- Ensure you are logged in as an administrator user
- Ensure User Account Control (UAC) is switched off.
For more details refer to KB 30854: How do I disable User Account Control (UAC)? - Ensure Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is set to the default setting.
For more details refer to KB 34263: How do I establish Data Execution Prevention settings? - Ensure any Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Malware, Firewall or any other such security software is switched off
- Ensure Linked Connections are enabled on any Server 2012 and/or Windows 8 machines.

Please confer with your IT professional if you have any issues with the above.
- Open MYOB AO. MYOB AO opens.
- Follow the menu path: Maintenance > Backup > Back Up Now. The Backup up now window appears.
- Provide a location and name then click Back up. The backup has completed successfully prompt appears.
- Click OK. You have successfully backed up your Tax and Practice Manager data.

Ensure you download and install any and all relevant versions before installing MYOB AO.
Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 32-bit edition with an MYOBACCT instance as per KB 34612: How do I install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Tools to a Named Instance?
- Download the MYOB AO download from Product Downloads page then launch the MYOB AO install. The Welcome window appears.
- Select the An existing MYOB AO user? option and click Next. The wizard continues and the Before you install step appears.
- Read the Upgrade Guide, and click Next. The wizard continues and the Install MYOB AO step appears.
- Click the link to install MYOB AO. The MYOB AO Installation Wizard opens.
- Select the Accept the License Agreement option and click Next. The wizard continues. The installer does a system check to ensure that your system meets the necessary requirements, and if OK, takes you to the Setup type selection.
- Select Network or Standalone, as applicable and click Next. The wizard continues.
- Select Standard Install (recommended) and click Next. The wizard continues.
- Database: the installer will attempt to detect an existing AO Classic data folder to convert. Ensure the location of Classic data is correct and click Next. The wizard continues.
Select your applicable products, click Register (recommended), and contact MYOB Support on 0800 94 96 98. Select Option 1 (Licensing) to obtain the Registration Code. The registration code is obtained.
If you are installing outside of Support hours, then click Temporary to complete the registration at another time. This will allow ONE user access for only 7 days until you register.- Enter a valid Registration Code for the displayed serial number & Number of users. The message "You have registered the following products successfully" appears.
- Click Close. The registration process is complete. A summary of the install details is displayed, showing the target folder for MYOB AO 2013.0 program files; the source AO Classic database folder to be converted; and the product to be installed.
- Click Install Now. The required software components are now installed. This takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour, but may take longer depending on the machine, and may require the computer to be restarted one or more times. At the end of the installation, a message about Open File warnings appears.
- Click OK. The installation is complete.
- Follow the menu path: Start > All Programs > MYOB > Restore a backup. The MYOB AO - Restore window appears.
- Click the Restore from ellipsis button and select your backup file then click Restore. You have successfully restored.
- Ensure all the paths are correct on the following screen, then press OK. The paths are updated.
- Once the restore has finished please re-run the installer you used earlier and select Repair, then press OK
Apply any further updates required, then proceed to do the below only if you are a network setup:
AO Classic: Re-run the AO Classic workstation install from the new server by running SETUP.EXE in the MYOBAO folder, eg. M:\MYOBAO\SETUP.EXE.
MYOB AO: Uninstall the existing AO workstation setup from Control Panel > Programs & Features, if it exists, and re-install it from the new server by running SETUP.EXE in the MYOBAO\AOSQL\WorkstationInstall folder,
for example M:\MYOBAO\AOSQL\WorkstationInstall\SETUP.EXE
