When you attempt to configure an MYOB Accountants Office (AO) General Ledger into Accountants Enterprise (AE) Client Accounting (CA) you may experience the error "There is a problem connecting to your MYOB AO Classic application and/or database. Please check your system configuration."

This can occur if the AE CA cannot locate or obtain access to the AO General Ledger data.

To successfully configure the AO General Ledger, add the AODataSource record with the AO data location into the Configuration in AE. This provides the location for the data.

If you still experience difficulties configuring the AO General Ledger, ensure you are logged into AE as a user in AO which has access to the General Ledger application.

How to add the configuration details

  1. Open MYOB AE and follow the menu path:
Maintenance > User Defined > Configuration.
The Maintenance - Configuration tab opens.
  2. Type AODataSource in Key Name and press TAB.
Focus moves to the Key Value field.
Note: If you already have a record with the Key Name AODataSource, skip to step 3 and type the required location on the existing key.
  3. Type the location of your AO Classic Data and click OK.
    The record is added.
    For example: M:\MYOBAO\Data\
Note: To identify the location of your AO Classic Data refer to KB 25232: How do I determine the location of my MYOB Accountants Office/Accountants Office Tax data?

How to allow access to the AO General Ledger

Refer to the Configuring security section in KB 32016: How do I setup security in MYOB Accountants Office? to add rights to the General Ledger to the required user.

Alternatively, add the rights to the General Ledger to a group, then assign the user to the relevant group which has rights to the General Ledger.
