If you're not able to open your software from the essentials.myob.com link, it may be because you've purchased or been upgraded to a newer version.

Try app.myob.com instead.

MYOB Essentials runs in a web browser, like Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. So the usual way to get into MYOB Essentials is to open your web browser and, if you’ve bookmarked it, open the MYOB Essentials sign in page.

OK, it’s not that time consuming, but what if you could open MYOB Essentials with a simple double-click?

Easy – just create a desktop shortcut!

Better still, set MYOB Essentials to automatically start when you start up your computer – while others are still checking their emails, you can be smashing the books!

To create a desktop shortcut (Windows)
  1. Right-click an empty spot on your Windows desktop and choose New > Shortcut.
  2. In the Type the location of the item field, enter the following:
    https://essentials.myob.com.au (for Australian businesses)
    https://essentials.myob.co.nz (for New Zealand businesses)

Paste the location of MYOB Essentials
  3. Click Next and give the shortcut a name.

    Give the shortcut a name
  4. Click Finish. The shortcut appears on your desktop. Your shortcut icon might look different to ours – it depends on your default web browser.

You’re now just a double-click away from opening MYOB Essentials.

To change the icon, right-click the shortcut and choose Properties, then click Change Icon.

To create a desktop shortcut (iPad and Mac)
  1. Open MYOB Essentials in a browser by going to:
    https://essentials.myob.com.au (for Australian businesses)
    https://essentials.myob.co.nz (for New Zealand businesses)
  2. Then:
    • iPad: Tap the Share button on the menu bar (the icon on the right that's a box with an arrow sticking out from it). Tap Add to Home Screen. An icon for MYOB Essentials is added to your iPad's desktop.
    • Mac: Select the entire address in the address bar at the top of the browser. Click and drag the address onto the Mac OS X desktop and release the mouse button. An icon for MYOB Essentials is added to your Mac's desktop.
To make MYOB Essentials automatically start when you start up your computer

If getting stuck into your books is the first thing you tackle each day, why not make MYOB Essentials launch when you start up your computer.

You can set this up in Windows or Mac (not on iPad unfortunately).

First, follow the steps to create a desktop icon for Essentials. Then:

Windows

  1. Open the Startup folder:

    • Windows 10: Press Win+R, type shell:startup and hit Enter.

    • Windows 7: Click Start>All Programs and then right click on the Startup folder.

  2. Drag the MYOB Essentials desktop shortcut you created from the desktop into the Startup folder.

Mac

  1. Go to System Preferences > Accounts
  2. Select your user account in the left column, then the Login Items tab on the right—this is the list of applications and files that you can direct your Mac to open at login.
  3. Drag your MYOB Essentials desktop shortcut into the Login Items list.

Now restart your computer and log in to your computer's user account. The MYOB Essentials sign in page appears in your default browser.
