When trying to send email from RetailManager, the Email Status might show as Unspecified.

Solution

First, make sure your default email program is MAPI compliant. MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) is a Windows program protocol that allows you to send an email from within a Windows application, such as RetailManager.

The MAPI compliant email programs which are supported by RetailManager are Microsoft Outlook (2010 and later). Note that 64-bit versions of Outlook are not compatible.

Once you have confirmed that your email program is MAPI compliant, complete the steps below to resolve this issue. Test the email function after performing each step to see if the issue has been resolved.

  1. Ensure there are no empty lines after the salutation in the default email message.
    1. Go to the Setup menu and choose Options.
    2. Click Email Defaults in the list.
    3. Click the applicable transaction tab.
    4. Ensure there are no empty lines after the salutation and before the email message.
    5. Modify if required then click Apply then OK.

  2. Ensure the customer record is setup to be used with email.
    1. Go to the Information menu and choose Customers.
    2. Enter the customer number or search for the customer in question.
    3. Check the customer's email settings.

  3. Ensure the correct email program has been specified.
    1. Go to the Setup menu and choose Options.
    2. Click Email Programs in the list.
    3. Choose the relevant program.

  4. If all the settings in RetailManager seem fine, reboot the computer and test again. You can also test emailing using the sample (Clearwater) shopfront.
  5. If all the above steps have been completed and it is still failing, try sending a test email to the affected RetailManager customer's email address directly from your email program. You can also try sending a test email to your own email address to see if you can send and receive. If both these fail, check your internet connection and your email program's settings.
