This error is caused by lock files on your computer. To fix this issue, you'll need to delete the lock files.

Using MYOB AccountEdge? Your help is here.

What is a lock file?

When a company file is open, a temporary file called a lock file is created in the folder where the company file is stored. This file keeps track of who is using the company file.

Lock files are named Lock0001.flk, Lock0002.flk, etc.

When you log out of the company file, the lock file is deleted automatically. If AccountRight isn't closed properly or the program exits abruptly, the lock file isn't deleted. Lock files can accumulate in the company file folder and prevent your company file being opened.

To delete lock files

Complete these steps on the computer where your company file is stored.

  1. Close AccountRight.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Simultaneously press the Windows  and E keys on your keyboard (the Windows  key is between the Ctrl and Alt keys). The contents of your computer are displayed.
  4. Navigate to where you store your company file. By default this will be in your application folder on your C: drive. Depending on your AccountRight version, the default folder location and name will be:

    If you're using

The default installation folder is here
    (v19.12 or earlier)

The default installation folder is here
    (v19.13 or later, Australia only)

    AccountRight Standard

    AccountRight Premier

    C:\Premier19
    C:\PremierClassic

  5. Find all lock files, e.g. Lock001.flk. To make these easier to find, click the Name column heading to sort the files in alphabetical order.

Can't find any lock files? Make sure you're looking in the folder where your company file is stored - this may vary to the default locations shown in the table above.

  6. To delete a lock file, right-click the file and choose Delete
  7. Click Yes to the confirmation message.

Can't delete lock files? Make sure you've closed AccountRight and restarted your computer. You should then be able to delete the lock files.

  8. Repeat to delete all lock files.

You will now be able to open your AccountRight company file.
