If double-clicking a shortcut to open a company file opens a previous version of the software or opens the wrong company file, you will need to perform one or both of the following processes:

Modify the shortcut properties

Modify the company file type associations

Modify the shortcut properties (all Windows versions)

  1. Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties. The Properties window will be displayed.
  2. Ensure the Target field contains the location of the software version you want to open when you use this shortcut, for example C:\Premier19\Myobp.exe.
  3. To make this shortcut not only open the software, but also automatically open your company file, edit the Target field to add the location of your company file. This needs to be added after "exe" software location and be inside quotation marks, for example C:\Premier19\Myobp.exe "C:\Premier19\clearwtr.myo"

Note: Case is not important, but there must be a space between the software file location and the company file location.

Modify the company file type association (all Windows versions)

File type associations allow your computer to decide which software it uses to open specific files. For example, a ".doc" file will open using Microsoft Word, and a ".xls" file will open using Microsoft Excel. We want to make sure your ".myo" company files open with the applicable MYOB software.

To modify your company file type association:

  1. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Windows Start button and choosing Explore.
  2. Locate your company file, for example C:\Premier19\clearwtr.myo
  3. Right-click the company file and choose Open or Open With. A message will be displayed advising that Windows cannot open this file.
  4. Select the option to select the program from a list, then click Ok. The Open With window will be displayed.
  5. Click Browse.
  6. Locate your MYOB software folder, for example C:\Premier19
  7. Double-click the myob.exe or myobp.exe file. The Open With window will be redisplayed and your MYOB program will now be listed in the available programs.
  8. Ensure your MYOB program name is highlighted and select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file option.
  9. Click Ok. Your MYOB software will open and the company file will also be opened.
  10. Close your MYOB software.
  11. Locate your company file, for example C:\Premier19\clearwtr.myo.
  12. Right-click the company file and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut). A shortcut to your company file will be placed on your desktop, and opening this shortcut will open the company file using your MYOB software.

Note: When you upgrade your MYOB software, this shortcut will continue to open the older software version. To fix this, repeat the above steps ensuring at step 6 you locate your new software folder.
