Once you have received your data file from the MYOB Data File Repair Team, you will need to restore the file onto your system.

Before you restore your repaired file we recommend that you either rename or move your old corrupted file, as this will ensure it is not accidentally mistaken for the repaired file. It is best to keep your old file on the system until you have fully restored the repaired file in case you need to review any transactions.

To rename your old data file

  1. Right-click your Windows Start button and choose Explore.
Note: If you are unfamiliar with Windows Explorer please refer to our support note Basic Windows functions.
  2. Locate your old data file(s). These will normally be stored in your RetailManager program folder unless you have specified a different location, typically C:\RetailM\<Your Shop Name>.
Note: You can set your Windows Explorer to either show or hide the file extension. The file extension is the 3 letters that appear after the dot in the file name.
  3. Click each file to be renamed, go to the File menu and choose Rename. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to the Organize menu and choose Rename.
  4. Enter the new name, overwriting the previous one, then press <Enter>. See our example below.

Notes:

  • When an MYOB file has been repaired, the Data File Repair Team will change the repaired file name to RepairedRMXXXXXXXX.zip.
  • The manner in which your file is returned will determine whether it has been backed up or not. If the file has been backed up it will have a .zip file extension.
  • If the file has been returned via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) it will likely be backed up, so you would need to restore the data file from the zip file.

How do I copy my repaired data file to my computer?

If your file was returned via FTP you will need to download the file and save it to the folder on your computer where you normally store your company file. For example, C:\RetailM\<Yourshopfrontname>.

If you submitted your file on a CD or other removable media, you can copy and paste the file by using Windows Explorer as follows:

  1. Right-click your Windows Start button and choose Explore.
  2. Select the drive which contains the removable media. In the example below, it is a CD and the CD drive is F: for this particular computer.
  3. Right-click the file to be copied and choose Copy.
  4. Right-click the destination folder and choose Paste.

If the file has been returned on a CD you will need to ensure that it is not 'Read Only'.

  1. Right-click the data file and choose Properties.
  2. Deselect the Read Only option.
  3. Click Apply. You will now be able to open the data file in MYOB accounting software.

If the file you have copied from the disc to your computer is a .zip file, you will then need to restore the zip file.

For instructions on how to restore a zip file, please refer to our support note Backup and Restore a RetailManager Shopfront.

Once you have finished restoring the file to your computer

  1. Open the repaired data file in your MYOB software.
  2. Go to the File menu and choose Configuration.
  3. At the prompt to close your current shopfront, click Yes.
  4. Click the Maintenance tab.
  5. Click to highlight your shopfront folder then click Rebuild/Compact.
