This procedure removes the KiwiSaver contributions from the PAYE Employer Deductions IR345, and the Employer Monthly Schedule IR348, so they are not paid to the IRD.

Refunds can only be done in Ace Payroll if the contribution has not already been paid to Inland Revenue.

Any contributions that are sent to Inland Revenue before the employee opts out will be automatically repaid by Inland Revenue. In that case, you don’t need to do anything.


To refund KiwiSaver contributions

This process is only possible for the first 2-3 weeks of employment for each employee. After that time the KiwiSaver Refund button will not be shown.


  1. From the front screen, click Calculate Pays and select an employee.

  2. Click Options > KiwiSaver Refund.

  3. Click the red cross on each pay you want to refund, then click Next.

  4. Choose how your will pay the refund, then click Next.
