When you first sign up for MYOB Essentials, you can start using it right away. However, there are a few things you should set up to ensure your GST and account balances are correct.
There are some basic setup tasks listed on the dashboard when you first sign up for MYOB Essentials. These tasks aren't compulsory, but it's a good idea to at least enter your business details (because they will show up on your invoices and quotes), your GST settings (to ensure that GST is calculated correctly on your transactions) and enter your opening balances (to ensure your reporting is accurate).
