We're aware of an issue that can result in MYOB Essentials kicking you out unexpectedly after 15-30 minutes, forcing you to sign back in. This can happen even when you are actively working on your MYOB Essentials file.

This is caused by a Google Chrome feature released in February which blocks some cookies. Other browsers may have this feature turned on too.

If you're experiencing this issue, there's some settings you can change in your browser which should fix it.

Refer to the relevant browser instructions below. (What browser am I using?)

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

If you're using Chrome, try disabling the following browser flags.

The most recent version of the Chrome app on iOS for mobiles does not have these options. This may change as Google updates the app.

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Type chrome://flags/ in your address bar
  3. Find following flags and choose the option to disable them:
  • SameSite by default cookies
  • Cookies without SameSite must be secure

Use the search bar in Chrome to find the flags:

Safari

Safari

  1. From the Safari menu, choose Preferences and then click Privacy.
  2. Deselect the following options:
    • Block all cookies
    • Remove stored cookies and data
    • Prevent cross-site tracking
Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge

Please note that Microsoft Edge is not a recommended browser for MYOB. We recommend that you swap to Google Chrome.

However, if you are using Microsoft Edge and are experiencing the issue you can disable the following flags in Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. Type edge://flags in your address bar
  3. Find following flags and choose the option to disable them:
    • SameSite by default cookies
    • Cookies without SameSite must be secure

Still having issues - or using Mozilla Firefox?

Using MYOB Essentials in a private browser window has been known to fix this issue. Refer to the relevant browser instructions below.

Google Chrome—open a new incognito window by clicking the menu button in the top-right corner of the browser and choosing New incognito window. Learn more about private browsing in Chrome.

Mozilla Forefox—open an InPrivate Browsing Window by clicking the browser menu button in the top-right corner and choosing New Private Window. On a Mac, you can also access this option from the File menu. Learn more about private browsing in Firefox.

Safari—open a Private Browsing Window via the File menu. On a Mac you can also press Shift+Command+N on your keyboard. Learn more about private browsing in Safari.

Microsoft Edge—open an InPrivate window via the menu button in the top-right corner, or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P on your keyboard. Learn more about private browsing in Edge.

Here's some other tips to keep you working without interruption:

  • Make sure you save the transaction or record you're working on regularly
  • If you're experiencing the issue, use a different browser, as the issues appear to be browser-specific.
