With the announcement of the end of life for e-file by Inland Revenue, Accountants Enterprise (AE) and Accountants Office (AO) Tax, we've began transitioning practices from desktop AE/AO Tax onto MYOB Practice Tax, online.

As such, you'll no longer be able to file tax returns or GST returns in your desktop AE/AO Tax system after 16 April 2021. You can read more about these changes in End of life for AE/AO Tax (NZ).

As we begin the transition to MYOB Practice Tax, we must inform you that MYOB Practice Tax won't have GST functionality at launch.

What this means for your practice

We'll let you know when filing GST in MYOB Practice is available. Once available, you'll be able to prepare and file GST returns online, through MYOB Practice Tax.

You can continue to file GST returns using AE/AO Tax until 16 April 2021. However, from 17 April 2021, you won't be able to file GST returns through AE/AO on the desktop, or prepare GST returns in MYOB Practice Tax.

After 16 April 2021, until GST is available in MYOB Practice, you'll need to use one of the two options to prepare and file GST returns instead:

Option 1: File through MYOB Essentials or AccountRight

You can file GST returns using AccountRight, Essentials and Essentials Connected Ledger.

Your GST return pre-populates with the figures from ledger, so you don't need to copy the figures into your myIR or paper return

For information on how to prepare and file a GST return, refer to the following help topics:

If you have clients on BankLink, you can move them onto an MYOB Essentials or AccountRight file, and file GST directly through the client ledger. Speak to your Account Manager to find out more.

Option 2: File through myIR
  • If you use AOGL to prepare and file GST returns for your clients, your workflow will change:
Instead of preparing a GST report and sending it to e-File, you'll need to print the GST report and manually enter the details into myIR.
To print a GST report, open the client's general ledger and go to Reports > GST Report. Use the information from this report to complete and file your GST Return in myIR. See the Inland Revenue website for more information.
  • If you use AE to prepare and file GST returns, instead of completing the GST return in AE Tax, you'll manually enter figures into myIR instead.
