This page describes how to install the Posiflex PP 7000 USB thermal docket printer on Windows 7 or Windows XP (32-bit versions only). You can install the printer using the disk and installation instructions that came with your printer. The printer driver for the PP-7000 can also be downloaded as described in Before you begin below.
Using Windows 8 or 10? A printer driver for the PP-7000 is not available for Windows 8 or 10. Contact Posiflex or visit posiflex.com for further information.
If you are unable to successfully install the device following these instructions you will need to consult with a RetailManager Professional or IT Professional.
Before you begin
- Before connecting and installing the docket printer, disconnect the computer from a network. Having the printer connected to the network during this process can cause major delays when windows attempts to search for available drivers. As soon as the driver installation is complete, the computer can be connected to the network again.
- Download your printer driver:
- Right-click this file and save it to your Desktop.
- Double-click the downloaded zip file. This will open a window displaying the contents of the zip file (a single folder named PP7000).
- Click the PP7000 folder and drag it to your Desktop. You may need to reduce the size of the window to allow you to do this.
- Ensure the printer driver is downloaded as described in Before you begin above.
- Connect the printer's power supply.
- Connect the printer to the computer using the the USB cable.
- Turn the printer on. Windows may attempt to install the printer - ignore this process.
- Click the Windows Start button, right-click Computer and choose Manage.
- Click Device Manager.
- Right-click Posiflex USB Serial Printer Converter and choose Update Driver Software.
- Click Browse my computer for driver software.
- Click Browse and locate the printer driver you downloaded from the Posiflex website.
- Click Next.
- At the following warning, click Install this driver software anyway.
- After installation, click Close.
- Right-click Posiflex PP7000 USB Thermal printer (under Ports (COM & LPT)) and choose Update Driver Software.
- Click Browse my computer for driver software.
- Click Browse and locate the PP7000 folder you dragged to your Desktop earlier in this support note.
- Click Next.
- Click Install this driver software anyway.
- After installation, click Close. The printer is now ready for use.
Our support note Error: "Code 10" when installing the Posiflex PP-7000 USB printer driver can be used if you encounter an Error Code 10 when attempting to install the printer driver.
Windows XP support has ended
Microsoft no longer support Windows XP which makes it susceptible to security vulnerabilities. If you're using Windows XP, you should consider upgrading to a newer Windows version.
- Ensure the printer driver is downloaded as described in Before you begin above.
- Connect the printer's power supply.
- Connect the printer to the computer using the the USB cable.
- Turn the printer on. Windows will detect the printer and prompt you with the following window. Choose No, not this time then click Next.
- At the following window select the option Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then click Next.
- At the following window select the option Include this location in the search, then click Browse and locate the printer driver you downloaded from the Posiflex website.
- Click Next.
- At the following warning click Continue Anyway.
- When complete, you will be prompted with the following window. Choose No, not this time then click Next.
- Repeat steps 5 - 8 to complete the printer installation.
If the docket printer does not work in RetailManager:
- Go to the Setup menu and choose Hardware.
- Click the Docket Printer tab.
- Ensure the printer model is set to Posiflex PP - 7000 and the correct COM port is selected.
- Click Settings and make sure the port settings are as follows:
- In RetailBasics access these settings by clicking Sales > Admin > Setup and Maintenance > Hardware Maintenance > Docket Printer Settings > Advanced Settings:
- Complete the following checks, if required:
- Perform a printer self test: Turn the printer OFF, hold down the FEED button and turn the printer back ON.
- Make sure printer is plugged in correctly.
- Turn the printer off and back on.
- Check the Paper out and Error light on the printer.
- Install a generic text only printer driver and try printing a test page.
- Try connecting the printer to another port.
- Remove any other printer drivers within windows that are connected to that port.
- Delete the Printer/COM port from Windows Device Manager (see Additional Notes below), unplug the printer from the computer, reboot the computer, plug printer into computer and install the new hardware device in windows again.
Additional Notes
- The Windows Device Manager will display the installed components as shown below in image on the right. The image on the left shows Device Manager without the hardware installed. The printer will appear under Ports (COM & LPT), while the USB Serial Converter appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- To uninstall the printer from the system, highlight the printer/COM port in device manager and press the Delete key.
- Click OK to confirm the removal. Repeat the same step for removing the USB serial converter. Once the components have been removed, the hardware can be installed again.
- If the hardware does not install correctly, Windows may show the following message in the system tray and in Device Manager.
- Remove the device, reboot the system and start the installation again.
- Windows will automatically assign the next available COM port number that is not currently in use by Windows or assigned to another device.
- When the printer is switched off or unplugged, it will not appear as an active COM port through device manager or RetailManager.
FAQs
The paper roll for the printer is 80ml.
If each time you print, the error light appears on the printer, the first thing to do would be to turn off and do a self test on the printer. If it still occurs it could mean that the paper you are using is too small for the printer, in other words is less that 80ml. With the printer you would have received a little plastic stopper, place this stopper between the printer roll and the side of printer and should eliminate error.
