If you no longer want to use a customer or supplier, but can't delete them from MYOB Essentials (because they've been used in a transaction, for example), you can deactivate them. This is usually a better option than deleting them, which permanently removes their details.

Deactivated contacts are removed from reports and some selection lists, but the contact’s details are stored in case you need them in the future.

 

To deactivate a contact

  1. Go to the Contacts menu and choose View contacts.
  2. Click the name of the contact to be deactivated.
  3. Deselect the Active option.
  4. Click Save.

  1. Go to the Contacts menu and choose View contacts.
  2. To see inactive contacts, select Inactive from the list.
  3. Click the name of the contact to be reactivated.
  4. Select the Active option.
  5. Click Save.

What happens when I deactivate a contact?

Deactivated contacts won’t appear in lists of available contacts when you enter transactions. By showing only the most relevant contacts, this makes it easier for you to find the contact you’re looking for.

By default, deactivated contacts will not be shown in your contacts list. To include deactivated contacts, select All contacts from the dropdown. If you only want to see deactivated contacts, select Inactive.

Deactivating and reactivating a contact doesn’t affect any of their transactions.
