Two-factor authentication (2FA) improves your security by making it harder for unauthorised people to access your data.
2FA is becoming mandatory for all MYOB software users (and for accounting software generally) to comply with new industry standards.
Having trouble with 2FA? See Get help signing in with two-factor authentication.
What is it?
Two factor authentication is the addition of a second level of security to the login process. This double-checks you are who you say you are, protecting your data from theft.
Check out this short video for an overview of 2FA with MYOB:
How does it work?
When you sign in to your MYOB account using your linked email and password, you'll be asked for an authentication code. The way you retrieve this code will depend on the 2FA method you're using.
2FA Method | Where to find the code |
---|---|
App | The authentication app on your device will display the code. |
The email address linked to your MYOB account will be sent the code. |
New authentication codes are created each time you log in.
How can I set up 2FA?
To turn 2FA on, see Setting up two-factor authentication.
FAQs
It depends what 2FA method you're using:
- App - Android, iOS and Windows phone or tablet devices.
- Email - Any computer or device that can access the email account you use to sign in to MYOB.
Whenever you sign in with a new device or browser, you'll need to enter a code.
If you don't want enter a code every time, choose the Trust this device for 30 days option as you sign in. MYOB will remember this device and you won't be asked for a code for the next 30 days.

You can use a backup code instead of a 2FA code if you don't have access to your device. Each code can only be used once, and you need to get them in advance.
Download your backup codes when you first set up 2FA, or later from the Security Centre.
Learn about using your using your backup codes.
2FA is only affected if you change the device you want to use, not your phone number.
You can only receive codes on one device at a time, so you'll need to change your 2FA device in the Security Centre. If you don't have access to your old device, you'll need to use a backup code to sign in.
Learn how to change your 2FA device.
No. You can only receive codes via email or authenticator app.
Get help choosing a 2FA method.
It depends what 2FA method you're using:
- App - You don't need internet access or phone reception to receive 2FA codes through the app.
- Email - You do need internet access to receive emails containing your 2FA codes.
2FA is unique to each user account. Multiple accounts can still access the same data (for example, a company file), but each user should have their own login and 2FA method.
We don't recommend sharing a single login between multiple people. Learn how to add a new user to AccountRight or MYOB Essentials.
We don't recommend sharing a single login between multiple people. You can set up an account for each user and all access the same data (for example, a company file). This is more secure and gives you more control over your 2FA options.
Learn how to add a new user to AccountRight or MYOB Essentials.
If you do share a user account, you'll all need access to the same 2FA email account or device.
No matter where you are, 2FA will still work as normal as long as you have access to your 2FA device (if using app 2FA) or email inbox (if using email 2FA).
Otherwise you can sign in with your backup codes.
To comply with new industry standards and ATO guidelines, 2FA is mandatory for all accounting software, including MYOB. You can't turn it off.
Your account will be unlocked after 20 minutes, so try again after that.
If you can't receive 2FA codes (for example, if you've lost your phone), and don't have backup codes, you'll need to call MYOB so we can help you regain access to your account.
You can only receive 2FA codes at the email address you use to sign in to MYOB. If you want to change this address, you'll need to update your details at my.MYOB (Australia | New Zealand).
