Welcome to Compliance!

Compliance allows you to file tax returns using Inland Revenue's new gateway filing service. With a streamlined user experience, better navigation and more screen space, you can do taxes anywhere, at any time, and even faster than before.

Before you get started, here are a few things you should know about Compliance first:

  • Tax returns won't be pre-populated, so you'll need to enter all data manually.

  • IR8 and IR9 are currently unavailable in MYOB Practice. You'll need to prepare and file these returns in your desktop tax software.

  • You'll continue to receive your daily Transaction Data Services (TDS) data feed on the desktop. You should continue to reconcile your Inland Revenue data in your desktop Tax manager. You can, however, retrieve this data manually online.

  • Tax notices are currently unavailable in MYOB Practice, so you'll also need to prepare these in your desktop Tax manager software.

Take a sneak peek

Watch a video on how to set up and prepare tax returns in MYOB Practice.

Setting up your practice

Make sure you've synced your AE/AO contacts into MYOB Practice and that you have your tax agent IRD number and client list number on hand.

To set up your practice for Compliance, you'll first need to add your tax agencies into your MYOB Practice settings. You'll only need to do this once per agent so that we can connect to Inland Revenue to file tax returns and download your client's Inland Revenue transactions.

See how it's done. Check out our course on setting up Tax in MYOB Academy.

To add an agency
  1. In MYOB Practice, click Settings on the left of the page.
  2. Click Agency details.
  3. On the right of the Agency details page, click Add agency.
  4. Complete the fields:

    • Agency name—enter a name for the agency.
    • Agency IRD number—enter your 9-digit tax agent number.
    • Client list number—enter the client list ID. You can find this number in myIR.

We've encountered some issues with the Agency address field. This field is optional, so please leave it blank for now.

  5. Click Add. The agency appears in the Agency details list.

Setting up a client

Now that your practice is all set up, you'll now need to choose the first client you'll prepare a tax return for online, and set them up.

To set up a client, you'll need to:

  1. Configure their compliance settings—so that you can receive your client's Inland Revenue transaction data and that the right type of tax return, with the right details, is created for your client.
  2. Retrieve their Inland Revenue transaction dataso that we can store your client's tax data for use in tax notices later.

You'll need to do this for each client you want to file a tax return for.

To configure your client's Compliance settings

To edit Compliance settings

  1. Select a client on your client sidebar, and click the Settings icon () on the top right of the page.

  2. Under Compliance settings, click Edit. The fields in the Compliance settings become editable.
